How Your Content is Structured

Before you begin to change your website it is important to understand how the content in your website is structured.

Every Spoonful of Love website is built using the Joomla! CMS. Your website has the following content structure: Sections, Categories and Articles. Articles are located within Categories, and Categories go within Sections. You cannot place Articles directly into sections.

Think of a filing cabinet as an analogy. In the cabinet you have suspension folders, inside them you have manila folders and inside those, sheets of paper with content on them.

The filing cabinet is the website, the suspension folders are the sections, the manila folders are the categories and the paper is the articles.

Content on your website may also be displayed using Components or Modules. Basically a component is a mini application that presents information in some fashion in the main body of your site.

Examples of standard Joomla! Components:

Weblinks Displays a collection of links such as favourite links, Restaurant links, or whatever you like.
Banners Displays Banners in rotation on your site
Contacts Allows you to manage a list of contacts for your site
Polls Allows you to manage and create different polls for visitors to your site

A module works slightly differently to components in that it allows content to be presented anywhere on the page of your website, i.e. side bars, headers or footers.

Examples of standard Joomla! Modules:

Newsflash Shows a random content item from a chosen category
Latest News Shows link list to most recently published content items
Login Form Shows a form to log in or create and account
Statistics Shows various site statistics
Banner Shows banners from banner component
